Here I have developed my logo ideas for what I think would look good on the cover of the album and in the magazine advertisement.

Logo Research

The artist Jason Mraz has a very simple yet quirky logo corresponded with his music. The font used on the name of the artist is very fun and not straight on line, this shows the audience that his music is different yet an easy listen. The image on the logo is simple and humorous as it represents him as an artist. The down side to this logo is the lack of colour. His music is very fun therefore there should be some bright and vibrant colours within the logo.

this is a mock up poster i have made up using photoshop. it uses the same picture as the previous cd cover that was made to keep consistency like the other ones i looked at. It is quite simple just using the artists name, cd name and date of release. this does not use the logo of the artist and i think on the real one, i would include the logo to make it recognisable. to break conventions, it may be a different picture on the poster to the cd cover to make it just a little bit different.

Album Cover Practice

I have created a album cover for our artist as a practice to give the group an idea of what we would like the actual album cover to look like. I looked at images on the website flickr for cold night shots to go with the theme of the song. I want to get a similar image for our album cover so i will go out with my camera and edit the shot to get a cold lonely photograph. The name of the artist is bigger than the name of the single because the audience will know straight away who it is.

magazine advertisements

The Florence and the Machine advertisement for ‘Lungs’ features the name of the band so people are automatically aware of who it is about. The name of the album is shown underneath the picture, Lungs. The picture shows a girl with lungs showing so they link to the name. The date is underneath the title but smaller so people know when it will be released. The website is available at the bottom and the record company also is. The poster is quite simple and not very eye catching. It doesn’t look interesting and appealing to the reader if they don’t know the band. Looking at the album cover it is advertising they are both very similar in the sense of the picture and title.

The Reverend and the Makers advertisement has the bands name in the middle in big fancy writing. This is straight away eye catching unlike the previous one which didn’t really stand out. The name ‘French kiss in the chaos’ relates to the picture on the poster, as it shows two people kissing and an explosion which is the chaos. There is a quote of NME saying what they think of the album which makes people interested if they have seen peoples ratings of it. It also has the release date of out Monday at the bottom. As with the Lungs advertisement, the poster of this album is incredibably similar. The album cover shows the name at the top of the page and the album name at the bottom which is in the same font as the poster and the background is exactly the same.

After looking at two different advertisements I think there is a big similarity included between the posters and CD covers which make the reader able to relates back to the album. This may be something to consider when creating our magazine advertisement.
